What is happening?

In January 2019 Waltham Forest Council Cabinet approved a programme to identify a preferred option for completing the redevelopment of the St James’ Quarter.

The report can be read from page 233 on this document.

Work will be taking place throughout the summer with a report likely to go to Cabinet in autumn of this year with details of the recommended preferred option.

The Council is continuing to have discussions about moving the existing St James Surgery to a new Health and Care Hub.

When further details of the preferred option are known this will be shared with local residents and businesses.

On Tuesday 3 July 2018 the Council held an information session at South Grove Primary School, Ringwood Road, Walthamstow, E17 8PW where residents, businesses and other stakeholders were able to find out more about proposals for regeneration of the St James’ Quarter, and ask questions about the proposals.

The Council has prepared a Draft St James Quarter Public Realm Design Guide (Part APart B and Part C). This provides guidance for the enhancement of public areas in the St James Quarter area of Walthamstow Town Centre.

The Guide follows on from the New South Grove / St James Quarter Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), adopted in May 2017, to provide further detailed design guidance to implement the vision of the SPD in relation to public areas and local amenity.

It aims to improve the key north-south and east-west pedestrian and cycle links through the area and set out good design principles for public realm and links between sites.

A public consultation is being held between Monday 22 July 2019 and 5pm on Monday 30 September 2019.

Details of the proposals can be seen at the consultation events or online.
