Therapy services are provided by health professionals  who enable you to support your child to achieve their potential in communication, physical skills, daily activities and independence.

A referral to these services is required and can be made via the GP, nursery or school.

The Children’s Community Physiotherapy Team provides specialist physiotherapy assessment, advice and intervention to children who have longer term difficulties or conditions which affect their movement, motor development and function.

If indicated, following physiotherapy assessment, a referral is made for specialist paediatric orthotic assessment, advice, provision and monitoring of orthoses (e.g. splints, specialist footwear, helmets, etc).

The children’s occupational therapy service helps children with disabilities and difficulties participate as fully as possible in their everyday activities.

Occupational therapists focus on the abilities needed for school, play and self care skills such as; holding pencil, feeding themselves or using a scooter. The occupational therapy service provides assessment, advice and therapy to develop a child’s daily life skills. The team support children with a range of conditions through assessment advice and therapy.

They see children at school home, in specialist clinics and in community settings. Primarily the service works with children aged 11 and under. However children aged 12 and over who have a newly acquired or terminal condition can be supported through this service. The service also provides a monthly hand splinting clinic for children aged 0-19 years.

The speech and language therapy service provides specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of communications and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties for children and young adults to the age of 19. The dysfluency service accepts referrals for children and Adults.

The team works with parents,carers, early years practitioners, schools and other healthcare professionals to create a supportive environment for the development of communication skills. The service supports children and young people who are displaying voice disorders, language difficulties, speech and sound difficulties, feeding delays, eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties and delayed language.
