King’s Road RRC, Gateway Road RRC and South Access Road RRC are currently operating a restricted service to allow people to dispose of any household or garden waste items while sticking to social distancing guidelines.

A new booking system has been introduced to minimise queuing time but queues are still expected.

Please make sure you have a valid booking and have checked the conditions of entry on the Wise up to waste website before you leave home. These are in place to ensure the safety of site staff and visitors. If you do not comply with the conditions of entry you will be turned away from the site.

Opening hours and waste types accepted may be subject to change.

Conditions of entry

  • Visitors will need a valid booking before they leave home, or entry will be refused
  • A limited number of cars will be allowed on site at one time
  • Pedestrian and cyclist access is now available at all sites
  • Two people will be permitted to leave the car when on site to deal with heavier items.
  • Vans, trailers and pick-up trucks will not be allowed to enter
  • Visitors should keep 2m from other people when on site
  • Site staff will not be available to help with unloading – please make sure you can carry your items by yourself
  • Please treat staff with respect and follow staff instructions at all times

At the moment only green waste (garden), general (including bulky) waste and small waste electrical and electronic items will be accepted. The type of waste accepted may change depending on government recommendations.

Items that will be accepted at RRCs:

  • From Tuesday 2 June, a wider range of items will be accepted for disposal and recycling. Visit www.wiseuptowaste.org.uk for more details on what items will be accepted.
  • general household waste (including bulky household waste, non-recyclable plastics, non-recyclable packaging)
  • small electrical appliances
  • garden waste

Bulky items (as long as you can carry them by yourself), include:

  • sofas/chairs
  • mattresses
  • plastic tables

There are two sites at Gateway Road:

  • the household reuse and recycling centre - for residents to dispose of waste and recycling
  • the trade waste site - there is a charge to dispose of waste here

The household site has a vehicle height restriction of 1.6 metres.

The household site does not accept any vans, or trailers over 1.2 meters (4 feet) long.

This site is run by Bywaters Waste Management on behalf of the North London Waste Authority.

Opening times

  • Tuesday to Saturday: 8.30am to 4.30pm
  • Sunday 8.30am to 3.30pm
  • Bank Holiday Mondays: 8.30am to 3.30pm

The site is closed on:

  • December 25, 26, December 26 and 1 January.
  • Mondays, except for Bank Holiday weekends, when the site is open on Bank Holiday Monday and then closed on the Tuesday instead.

The site does not accept the following:

Disposing of tarmac

Tarmac can not be taken to any of our public reuse and recycling sites. It can be disposed of at Bywaters Trade Site, Gateway Road, Leyton. There is a charge to use this site.

Bringing rubble Click to get info

You can bring up to six standard rubble sacks of rubble each month.

A standard rubble sack is 20 inches by 30 inches.

Bags of rubble can contain brick, concrete and paving stones, but not plasterboard, tarmac or tiles.

Disposing of trade waste Click to get info

For trade waste disposal, please use Bywaters Trade Waste site at Gateway Road (turn left for the trade waste site). There will be a charge to dispose of trade waste.

Bicycles

There is a bicycle reuse scheme in operation with Recycle your Cycle. Recycle your Cycle works with the UK prison service to provide training in the refurbishment of bicycles. Bicycles are then sold through charity shops across the country as well as in the Second Time Around Shop at Kings Road Reuse and Recycling Centre, Chingford.

Bicycles that are disposed of at site that are not suitable for reuse are recycled.

Furniture

Any furniture that is suitable to be used again will be inspected, safety checked and sold at the Second Time around Shop at Kings Road Reuse and Recycling Centre, Chingford.

Furniture that is not suitable to be used again, such as upholstered furniture without a fire label, or with missing parts, will be sent for recycling where possible.

Paint

Paint bought to this site is reused as part of the Community Re-Paint scheme. Residents and community groups can purchase the paint at a reduced price by visiting the Forest Recycling Project (FRP).
