If you work for the NHS as a key worker you can now apply for a carers permit, free of charge, which will allow you to park your vehicle in any permit bay throughout the borough, excluding market trader bays which are identified by zone MT on the signage. You should select a CPZ of where your place of work is based.

Please note that all applications made from now will expire on the 31 August 2020.

Where can I park as an NHS Key Worker?

You will be able to park in any permit bay, excluding Market Trader MT bays, throughout the London Borough of Waltham Forest. For a full list of where the permit cannot be used, please read the Carers Permit Terms and Conditions.

What proof do I need to supply?

  • NHS Staff ID Badge
  • Letter from your employer (NHS)
  • Payslip – showing NHS Worker

Please note that all applications made from now will expire on the 31 August 2020. After this date, the NHS carer permit scheme will be reviewed, with further communication to be published on this page.

If Central Government issues a directive that the COVID–19 pandemic is over, the permits will be cancelled 7 days after the announcement.

Carers' parking permits

Carers' parking permits are free if you meet certain criteria.

Carers' permits are virtual, which means you won't get a paper permit to display in your vehicle. Our enforcement officers can check which vehicles have a valid permit by checking the vehicle registration number (VRN).

Who can apply

You can apply for a free carers' parking permit if you are:

  • the owner or main keeper of the vehicle
  • caring for a resident who lives in a controlled parking zone (CPZ)
  • getting Carer’s Allowance
  • a Foster Carer who resides within a CPZ in Waltham Forest (Foster Carer status will be confirmed via our Foster Team, proof of address must be supplied by yourself).

If you are an unofficial carer, you may be allowed to buy a permit. To apply, you must provide a doctor’s letter (from the recipient of care) detailing the level of care provided. Your eligibility for this will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on your circumstances.

Carers parking permits are free if you are in receipt of DWP allowance or are a registered Foster Carer who lives within a CPZ. Carer permits are chargeable as per residents pricing if you are not in receipt of DWP allowance or a registered Foster Carer.

Waltham Forest Council retains the right to carry our random checks on permits in order to check the information supplied in the application.
