Why do we have a Waltham Forest Community Safety Board?

The root of the board goes back to the investigation of the 1981 Brixton riots by Lord Scarman who, in his report suggested that PCCGs (now referred to as the Waltham Forest Community Safety Board) should be set up in order to make the police more accountable.

Who sits on it?

The CSB is made up of representatives from the local community; business groups and local councillors, who are supported by council officers, police officers, professionals and practitioners in the community safety field.  The CSB is not a legal body of the Metropolitan Police Authority, but rather community-led ventures funded by the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA).

The Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA)

The MPA exists to make sure that London’s police are accountable for the services they provide to people in the capital. The MPA has 23 members who scrutinise and support the work of the Metropolitan Police Service.

The MPA promotes equality and diversity within the police service and is working in partnership to ensure all those who live and work in the capital are treated fairly and with respect.

Application form

How can I ask the CSB a question?

The Board is there to represent you and help you, either as an individual or as a member of a community group. You can raise any policing issue at the Board's public meetings by informing the Group Secretary in advance or on the evening. Members of the Board will then try to answer all questions as fully as possible.
