This summer the Games will be happening here in Waltham Forest!
The Torch Relay, a fantastic cultural programme, and of course the Games themselves, will excite and inspire local people like never before.
The Games present a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a difference to residents of this borough and the rest of East London with massive social, economic and physical regeneration of the area.

- 12-28 February: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games

2009
- Construction underway on all new permanent venues on the Olympic Park
2008
- May: Construction began on Olympic stadium
- August: Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games
- September: Beijing Paralympic Games
2007
- October: Planning permission granted for Olympic Park site
2006
- January: The London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games was fully set up
- March: The Olympic Delivery Authority was set up by the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act
2005
- July: The International Olympic Committee voted for London to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Game
Who's who
Host boroughs
Waltham Forest is one of the six east London host boroughs for the 2012 Games, along with Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Barking and Dagenham. The Olympic Park sits across the borders of Waltham Forest, Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets, and Greenwich will host several events in existing and temporary venues.
LOCOG
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is responsible for preparing and staging the 2012 Games.
OPLC
The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) is the company that has responsibility for the Olympic Park after the 2012 Games.
DCMS
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) leads for the Government on the delivery of the Games. It is responsible for the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006, the overall finances of the Games, and sponsorship of the Olympic Delivery Authority.
GLA
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, works with the Greater London Authority (GLA) Group to ensure Londoners get the most possible benefit from the 2012 Games.
