Case studies
Sawan Nair – BBC Work Experience
Sawan lives in Leyton and was unemployed for nearly four years before registering with Worknet. Sawan used to be a freelance camera operator and videographer before work became difficult to find. The longer he was out of work, the more difficult it was for him to maintain his networks in the industry and find work.
Sawan had the following to say on the service provided by Worket:
My name is Sawan Nair and I have been on work placement at the BBC. I got the placement through Worknet (in Waltham Forest). I went for the interview at the BBC and I got the placement. The work I did whilst there was various; I did filming, editing and research. Some of my work was actually aired on the BBC Breakfast Show on television. I networked and made some good contacts, all of whom I stay in contact with. I actually got a call back from BBC 'World Class' department asking me to come in for some paid work as an Editor on a casual contract.
I am currently producing and filming a short promo for 'BBC London 2012', this is for the work placements and the aim is to influence people to get involved. Once I am done with that, it shall be on the official BBC website and also across the six boroughs involved.
I'd like to thank you for your help and also the Worknet team, who were very helpful and assisted me getting this opportunity.
