School term and holiday dates

Last updated 18 November 2015

School calendar for 2016-17

The Deregulation Bill was set to remove the statutory duty for Local Authorities to set term dates for community, voluntary controlled, community special schools and maintained nurseries in its area. However, in September 205 the Department of Education said that this aspect of the bill will not commence.

Therefore, the Council continues to hold a statutory duty to set school term dates and holiday dates in its area.

Governing bodies of foundation, voluntary aided and foundation special schools are able to set their own term dates but they usually choose to adopt the same dates as the Local authority, however families are recommended to contact their school directly to confirm this.

Local schools were consulted with on term dates for 2016-17 between 20 May–1 July 2015. The dates below are the result of this consultation and are due to go to the Council Cabinet in December 2016 for final agreement.
