North East London Local Authority PartnershipSurvival through planningBusiness continuity managementThe North East London Local Authority PartnershipThe North East London Local Authority (nella) partnership is made up of the following councils: Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, and Waltham Forest. These councils' emergency planning and civil contingencies units work together to deliver the duties of the Civil Contingencies Act (2004). These duties include making sure there is a sound level of preparedness that ensures an effective and timely response and recovery to the risks and threats in these North East London councils. Under the Act, it is now a requirement that councils maintain and exercise Business Continuity (BC) plans themselves to ensure that they can continue their functions in the event of an emergency. The Act also requires councils to provide advice and assistance to business and voluntary organisations in relation to BC management. This is being achieved in North East London through the nella partnership which jointly promotes BC by:
