Waltham Forest Council takes part in Scores on the Doors, a national scheme that makes businesses’ food hygiene results available to the public.

The scheme scores food businesses from zero to five stars. The scores are available online and businesses will also be asked to display them on their premises, although this is not a legal requirement. Look out for window stickers and certificates showing the scores at food businesses around Waltham Forest.

How are food premises rated?

The Council’s Environmental Health Officers routinely inspect and score all food businesses in Waltham Forest using a national risk-rating scheme.  The elements of that score relating to food hygiene, structure, and confidence in management will be published as a single star rating to make the score easy to understand.

All food premises inspected by the Council since 1st January 2006 have their results published. You should remember that the score shows a snapshot in time and may not reflect the current condition of the business.

How will the scheme work?

This scheme gives residents the opportunity to find out how clean their local restaurant or café is. It is a way for us to give high achieving businesses the recognition they deserve while giving under-achieving businesses an incentive to improve.

If you are a business wanting to improve your rating you need to ensure you attend to everything in your last inspection report ready for your next routine inspection, and that you comply with current food safety legislation. If you are in any doubt, contact the Food Safety Team on 020 8496 3000.
