Transport plays an important part in our lives. We now travel more than ever before, which has resulted in more cars on the road. But more car use can damage our health, safety, the environment and our future prosperity. The pages listed below detail ways in which the Council is working towards reducing dependency on the car.
Each year the Council receives funding from Transport for London for its programme of transport and highway schemes. Our aim is to use the funding to provide transport improvements for the boroughs’ residents and transport users generally.
The Council works with public transport providers and other agencies to improve the public transport network in the borough for the benefit of the community. It also promotes sustainable transport initiatives such as cycling, safer routes to school, walking and travel plans.
