Ruckholt Road bridge works
9 Dec: Improvements at Ruckholt Road bridge are being carried out by the Council in partnership with the Olympic Delivery Authority and Transport for London. Works began on 28 November 2011 and will continue until March 2012.
The existing road bridge is not wide enough for the pedestrian and cycle facilities needed at this key access point, so a new foot and cycle bridge is being constructed next to the existing Ruckholt Road bridge (over Marshall Road, the access from Orient Way into the Leyton Mills retail site).
The new bridge will improve walking and cycling routes between Leyton, Walthamstow, the northern fringe of the Olympic Park and the network of roads and paths in Hackney and beyond.
As a result of the bridge works, there are temporary Traffic Management measures in place affecting traffic in Ruckholt Road and Orient Way and affecting access to Leyton Mills Retail Park and supermarket (Asda).
Between 6 December 2011 and 9 December 2011 part of Marshall Road, under the bridge, was closed whilst works were carried out to construct the foundations for the central bridge pier.
The road has re-opened for the weekend of 10-11 December but will need to be closed again on Monday 12 December and Tuesday 13 December. Traffic diversions will be in place maintaining access to the retail park but it is expected there will be traffic delays in Ruckholt Road and Orient Way during peak periods.
After 13 December 2011 until March 2012 works will continue in Marshall Road under the bridge, using temporary traffic signals when required so that the road remains open.
Additional road closures and traffic diversions will be required for a short period in late February/early March when the bridge span is lifted into position. Further information will be provided nearer the time.
