In 2007 the Metropolitan Police recorded a total of 670 road traffic accidents in involving personal injury in Waltham Forest. These resulted in 839 casualties (3 people killed, 89 seriously injured, and 747 slightly injured). The total cost of all these accidents to the community is over £65 million. Although it may seem unsympathetic to express such pain and suffering in economic terms, it does assist in drawing attention to the scale of the problem.
