These vehicles come within the following categories.
a) Vehicles abandoned that are only fit for immediate destruction
b) Vehicles abandoned that are not fit for immediate destruction
c) Untaxed vehicles on a public road
Initially the Council will endeavour to carry out an inspection of the vehicle within 24 hours* of being reported.
It is the Council’s intention where possible to remove all abandoned vehicles within 24 hours* of being designated as such by the Investigating Officer. Untaxed vehicles are generally removed, if authorised, within the same time scale.
Vehicles on highway land
There is no longer a requirement for the local authority to affix a notice to a vehicle, which in their opinion, has been abandoned on a highway.
Vehicles within category (a) will generally be removed within 24 hours* of being designated as abandoned and can be destroyed immediately following removal.
Vehicles in category (b) are also generally removed within 24 hours* of being designated as abandoned but are then put in safe storage at the contractor’s pound, whilst further enquiries are made to trace the owner.
Vehicles on private or occupied land
If located on Ascham Homes land then the matter should be reported to:

Vehicles under (a) and (b) above require a 15 day notice to be served on the owner/person responsible for the land, unless they have given authority for the Council to act.
At the expiry of the notice period, if no contact has been made in writing or otherwise, claiming the vehicle, it will be removed within 24 hours* and disposed of by the council.
The Police are informed of all vehicles prior to and following removal and when they are destroyed. The DVLA are informed of all vehicles that have been destroyed or otherwise disposed of by the Council.
