In August 2010 to improve services to customers and residents the Chief Executive’s management team reviewed the findings of extensive research into the experiences and perceptions of local lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gender people. In response to it and in anticipation of the introduction of a wider public sector equality duty it approved the development and delivery of an action plan to deliver the following outcomes which are the focus for the Council’s external LGBT equality work:
- More LGBT people feel safe in WF during the day- time and after dark
- Increased awareness of the existence an LGBT community in the borough
- Narrowing the gap between the percentage of LGBT people who feel they can influence decisions and the average percentage for the borough

It further agreed to the setting up of a time-limited LGBT advisory group of residents to oversee the implementation of the plan. This work plan will run alongside the Council’s staff related work being implemented as part of the national Stonewall work place initiative.
