Council publishes Gender Equality Scheme 2007-2010

The Council has published it's first Gender Equality Scheme (GES) following approval at Cabinet on the 24th April 2007. The scheme has been developed in consultation with both staff and service users using a range of engagement and consultation methods. The results of this engagement have directly informed both the Strategies objectives and the activities in the Action Plan.

The Scheme and Action Plan set out the steps the Council will take over the next 3 years to meet its gender equality duties. In summary, in addition to equal pay, our Scheme focuses on the following themes:

  • Improving women’s safety
  • Raising boys’ achievements and girls’ aspirations
  • Promoting men’s and women’s involvement and participation in decision-making
  • Supporting parents and carers in the workforce
