The Community Cohesion Task Group has developed tension monitoring and contingency planning arrangements to tackle tensions at a local level, and respond quickly and effectively to critical incidents. Our response to these issues has been tested on a number of occasions, and we piloted the Metropolitan Police and Institute of Community Cohesion guidance on tension monitoring in 2007/8.
Waltham Forest Community Cohesion Contingency Plan
This Community Cohesion Contingency Plan provides us with a clear process to deal with critical incidents. The Department of Communities and Local Government have recommended that each local authority area has a plan like this in place, and once again Waltham Forest has illustrated its community leadership on this agenda by becoming one of the first local authorities in London to have an agreed partnership plan in place.
