Council receives national recognition for working with its communities

Waltham Forest Council and the Borough’s police have been awarded Beacon status for their work in building Cohesive and Resilient Communities.

The Beacon awards recognise the Council’s excellent and innovative work in improving the quality of life for their residents and communities.

The Beacon status remains with us for the next 12 months and we have developed a number of actions showing our commitment to the Beacon promise to mentor, share and support a developing cohesion agenda across the country (and sometimes across the world).

Building cohesion with young people

The borough’s young people are involved in the process of building cohesion and preventing extremism both within and outside the formal education system.

We have set about building stronger communities, involving youth engagement by working with young people through projects including the Young Muslim Leaders Project, Swapping Cultures and the Youth Independent Advisory Group.
