Making a referral to YISP

Who is eligable for referral?

A child or young person aged 8-17 who:

Lives in Waltham Forest and, along with her/his parents, agrees to the referral
Is at risk of offending or anti social behaviour
Has not received a final warning from the police or been convicted of an offence
Is in need of a multi agency response

If a young person is assessed and is not suitable for a YISP intervention the child, family and referrer will be advised of suitable agencies that may be able to offer a service.

Who refers to YISP?

Referrals can come from a wide range of organisations that have concerns about a young person they are involved with.

Parents and young people may also wish to refer themselves.

How do you refer to YISP?

Referrals can only be accepted upon receipt of a fully completed YISP referral form including signed consent from a parent. Further information and referral forms can also be obtained from:

What can referrers expect?

Referrers will be asked to fill in a YISP referral form for the young person they want to refer, which should have all the key information of the young person, and their current contact details. Referrers must also try and get the signed consent of the young person and their parent. If they have difficulty with this they should contact the YISP on the details below for advice.

The referral will go through a validation process and will then be allocated to a caseworker. If the caseworkers are at full capacity the referral will be put on a waiting list, if this happens the YISP will inform the referrer. Alternatively, the YISP may decide that the young person does not meet their referral criteria and would be more appropriate for another service, if this happens both the family and the referrer will made aware of this decision.

Referrals may take a number of weeks to go through validation, allocation and assessment. You will be kept informed of this by the YISP.
