The Council, Waltham Forest Borough Police and our partners work very closely together to identify ways to combat crime.
The Waltham Forest Crime Control Strategy for June to December 2008 sets out our borough’s police priorities for prevention, intelligence and enforcement. These priorities are decided by:
- Asking the public about crime in their area, and carrying out quarterly surveys to gain an accurate picture of the feelings and concerns of Waltham Forest residents
- Following leads set by the Home Office, Metropolitan Police Authority, Waltham Forest Council and local police Safer Neighbourhood ward panels
- Analysing local crime trends
- Identifying crime generators - crimes or problems (such as drug dealing) that might lead directly to more crimes being committed in the borough
The 2008 Crime Control Strategy will prioritise six problems in Waltham Forest:
- Dealing and distribution of drugs
- Personal robbery
- Serious youth violence
- Anti-social behaviour
- Residential burglary
- Counter-terrorism and violent extremism
The police have to direct specific resources towards a number of serious problems that have been identified by the police, local government, national agencies and the general public as needing particular attention.
This does not mean that the police are ignoring other crimes. Every crime report is investigated. However, it ensures that sufficient resources can be invested in the particular crimes and problems that are of most concern to the residents of Waltham Forest.
