The Preparing for Emergencies web site includes common sense advice found in the newly launched Preparing for Emergencies booklet, and information on what the government is doing to protect the country as a whole.

UK Resilience (www.ukresilience.info)
This site is run by G.I.C.S. Operations (Government Information and Communication Service), part of the U.K. Central Government Cabinet Office, for the Civil Contingencies Secretariat (C.C.S). The C.C.S. is a co-ordinating body and centre of expertise set up to improve the resilience of Central Government and of the U.K. - please see our role for details of the Secretariat's structure and work.

The site will respond to emergencies in the same way with up-to-date news and guidance, plus briefings and links. In addition, the content has been revised and enlarged to provide a broad range of information on a variety of possible emergencies, with links to government departments, agencies, and other bodies who provide help and assistance.

All of the content from the old News Co-ordination Centre site is here, including Civil Contingencies information with advice for businesses, and resilience planning information. There are links to the Emergency Planning College and London Prepared, the new site with emergency information for Londoners. The Government Web sites link leads to all the Central Government departments, and the Local Government link leads to all Local Authorities and other bodies concerned with local government.

London Prepared (www.londonprepared.gov.uk)This site tells you about how London is checking that all its plans and procedures can stand up to any type of threat. It aims to give the latest news and information by signposting all front-line organisations.

This site also includes information on the London Resilience Team. The team supports the 'London Resilience Committee'. The London Resilience Team is similar to the team that made sure London was prepared for the Millennium. The team is largely made up of people from the organisations represented on the Committee who have first-hand experience in the key areas.

The aim of the team is to make sure that the emergency plans and procedures of London organisations vital to keeping the Capital running fit together effectively and can stand up to different scales and types of threat.

The Home Office is responsible for keeping the UK safe from any threat to national security. The site has advice for the general public and provides a range of information from details of terrorist organisations to guidance on personal protection

London Emergency Services Liaison Panel (www.leslp.gov.uk/)
This website aims to give an overview of London's Emergency Services' joint response to major incidents within the Capital.

London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (www.london-fire.gov.uk)
The London Fire and Emergency Planning website covers the London Fire Brigade, and Emergency Planning for the capital.

Meteorological Office ("Met Office") (www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/europe/uk/warnings.html)
The Met Office website gives details of current severe weather warnings for the UK
