The Drug Action Team (DAT) is responsible for delivering against the four strands of the Government's National Drug Strategy "Tackling Drugs to Build a Better Britain". These are prevention, treatment, availabilities and communities.

The work that the Waltham Forest Drug Action Team undertake in the Borough includes:
- commissioning a Drug Intervention Programme (DIP) aimed at getting drug-using offenders into treatment
- commissioning drug and alcohol support and treatment services for the Borough
- delivering preventative strategies to young people at risk of problematic drug and alcohol use
- distributing drug awareness and educational material
- working in partnership with the community to assess the drug support needs of Waltham Forest residents
- consulting with service users and carers to better understand and meet their service needs
- working in partnership with the police and other agencies to reduce the impact and harm on the community of drug dealing and using
