Many residents have told the Council that they are worried about the proposed closure of their local post offices.

Mrs Maria Bojang, of Leytonstone, said:

“I use Leyton Green Post Office at least once a week, if not more. As well as postal services, I pay my rent and other bills there, so I don’t have to withdraw money and carry it around with me. Leyton Green Post Office is always busy, lots of people use it, so I can’t see why it should be closed down.”

She added:

“Leyton Green Post Office provides a good service for the community. Lots of people rely on it, so I’m angry that Post Office Ltd just want to make money and forget about the customers.”

Residents at Pelly Court Sheltered Accommodation Scheme, Walthamstow, are angered by the proposed closure of Orford Road Post Office. They said:

“All of us use the Post Office in Orford Road at least twice a week to pay rent, collect pensions, draw money out of accounts and use postal services”
“Everyone in the local area is against closure, not just the older people living in the sheltered housing schemes. Families and young people need the post office just as much as us older people.
“Some of us have ill health and can’t walk all the way to the next nearest Post Office or get public transport without help. It’s going to cost us £10 to collect our own pensions because we’ll have to get a taxi there and back. We just can’t afford that, so we rely on our local Post Office and want it to stay open.”

D Mayes, Leyton

“As an OAP with arthritis and other medical conditions people I need facilities close at hand. Save our post offices, don’t throw us on the scrapheap, I beg you.”

Ms Wood, Walthamstow

“Our post offices are at the centre of our communities in Waltham Forest. We cannot afford to lose them.”

E Boyce, Walthamstow

“Local post offices serve the community but are part of the community. If they close they take away not only services, but also a social network for those who really need it.”

L Nelson, Walthamstow

“Existing post offices are constantly busy, closures will exacerbate this problem and it is unacceptable.”

R C Hirst, Walthamstow

“Post offices provide an invaluable service. They are a British institution.”

M J Canny, Chingford

“With a rise in ageing population, the local post office is more essential than ever.”
