Waltham Forest Council is delighted to announce that Andrew Kilburn, currently Chief Executive of Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council, has been appointed as the Council’s new Chief Executive.
The appointment, which is subject to confirmation at the next full Council meeting, was made by a cross party group of Councillors after an intensive recruitment process.
Mr Kilburn has been a local authority Chief Executive since 1995, firstly at Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and since 1999 at Oldham, where he is credited with significant service improvements and helping the area recover from the riots of the early part of the decade.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Kilburn cited his experiences of Waltham Forest as a key attraction to the area. “I was involved in the IDeA Peer Review of Waltham Forest last year and was greatly impressed by the level of commitment, care and concern exhibited by everyone I met.
“There is enormous potential for Waltham Forest as a Council but more importantly as a community, and I am looking forward to the job tremendously.”
The Leader of all three political parties represented on the Council, Cllr Clyde Loakes, Cllr Keith Rayner and Cllr Matt Davis, welcomed the appointment with a joint statement, saying; ”Andrew has huge experience in local government and we are delighted that he will be joining us.
“We are at a crucial stage for the borough with plans for the next 20 years being drawn up with our partners. We are very confident that Andrew has the talent and passion to drive forward the ambitious agenda that our residents deserve.”
Mr Kilburn’s formal start date has yet to be agreed.
