Chingford Foundation School had reason to celebrate recently, following the announcement it had been successful in its bid to become a specialist college in Arts and Humanities.

Specialist status will take effect from 1 September 2008 and means another word opportunities for both students and the wider community.

In addition to an increased curriculum, the school's new status will provide substantial extra funding and a wider range of outreach activities, including the development of a Saturday College and a community arts centre.

Cllr Chris Robbins, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:

“This is fantastic news for the school, its pupils and their parents.
“I would like to congratulate the teachers and governors for their hard work in achieving this status.
“Chingford Foundation is yet another example that Waltham Forest schools are good and getting better. Only by providing the very best standards of education can we ensure all our young people are happy and successful.”

As part of its new status, Chingford Foundation School is committed to sharing its expertise and resources with other schools, providers and the wider community.

Chingford Foundation School would like to thank their sponsors who have contributed, along with the Chingford Schools Parents Association, to fund raising the £50,000 necessary. The sponsors include The Jack Petchey Foundation, MSG Autographs and the Old Chingfordians.

Head Teacher Mark Morrall said:

"We are very pleased with the news of this great achievement and would like to thank everyone in our community who assisted us; students, parents, staff, governors and sponsors.
“The school is confident and optimistic about how this new status will promote further development with partner schools and community groups for the benefit of students' learning. We can look forward to an outstanding future."
