Bottles of counterfeit vodkaResidents are being warned to avoid potentially harmful counterfeit vodka after 30 bottles were seized from three traders in the Borough.

Excessive levels of methanol have been found on fake 70cl bottles of Spar brand Imperial Vodka which were found on sale in non-Spar shops.

Waltham Forest Council environmental health officers have already visited most of the off-licenses in the Borough to check their stock, but are appealing to retailers and residents to get in touch if they think a premises is selling counterfeit vodka.

Spar brand Imperial Vodka on sale in Spar shops is not affected.

The fake bottles have blurred text on the labels and do not have lot codes on the neck of the bottles. The fakes are also made of Quinn Glass and have the code QI:1445c on the bottles.
