Waltham Forest Parks

As a borough we are fortunate to have many open spaces, children's play areas, a cycle race track, tree trails, ecology areas and a model railway for children. As a result, we can put on many outdoor sporting events so you can enjoy green spaces and gardens to watch, or take part in, activities such as cricket, football, tennis, cycling and skateboarding or one of the many smaller events put on regularly by Green Spaces.

We look after six premier parks as well as a number of smaller parks, open spaces, cemeteries, playing fields and children's playgrounds.

Premier parks differ from other open spaces in that they have park keepers based on site during opening hours. The park keepers undertake security and cleansing roles as well as helping with the grounds maintenance. One of our premier parks has already achieved green flag status and it is hoped that in the next few years all our premier parks will achieve a green flag award. See green flag awards

Except where otherwise stated, our parks are open each day all year round. We aim to open locked parks by 9am each morning and they close at dusk.

Some sports areas are only open for prebooked activities, so please call us to check availability and make reservations. For exact times please see the park notice boards or view opening hours of parks, open spaces, playing fields and children's playgrounds

Lee Valley Regional Park and Waltham Forest

Lee Valley Regional Park is London's biggest open space, stretching 26 miles from Hertfordshire, through Essex, north and east London to the Thames. The Park blends nature reserves and country parks with first rate sports venues, a number of which are in the Borough. The Park Authority is partly funded by Waltham Forest.

The Authority, owners of 35 per cent of the parklands in the new Olympic Park and four London 2012 venues is playing a major role in the Games. Lee Valley White Water Centre, near Waltham Cross just north of the M25 will open to the public ahead of the Games in spring 2011.
