At Vestry House Museum, with the help of Waltham Forest in Focus and the Walthamstow Historical Society, we have been compiling a list of war memorials in the borough.

The information we have gathered has now been sent to the Imperial War Museum for their UK National Inventory of War Memorials.

The National Inventory of War Memorials was set up in 1989 and, with the help of volunteers, plans to record every type of war memorial, except grave stones, in the country. They estimate that their database will eventually hold information on 50-60,000 memorials.  If you wish to find out more about this national project then go to its web site.

We now have information on 70 memorials we know about in Waltham Forest, the details of which have been sent to the Imperial War Museum.  ome of these memorials are in public spaces like parks, and others are in places of work.
