East London Housing Partnership – Flats Above Shops

Grants are available to freeholders, or long-term lessees of suitable premises throughout Waltham Forest. The grants are to tackle empty residential properties and bring them back into use. The funding is aimed largely at street properties.

However, there are often disused, under-used or derelict upper floors above retail premises, which could be converted into high quality residential flats.

Preference will normally be given to schemes that offer a number of new residential units. The grants do not always cover the entire costs of conversion and Waltham Forest will in all cases require nomination rights for its housing applicants for a minimum of three years after completion for agreed rents.

This project is funded by the East London Housing Partnership.
