We recognise the importance of involving you in the decision-making process. We are committed to getting tenants involved effectively, especially in influencing our service standards and performance. We are looking to increase tenant representation in all areas in which we work. We believe in having a working partnership with all our tenants and leaseholders, and in looking for new and better ways of strengthening this partnership. Under the Housing Act 1985 (Provision of Information and Consultation, Section 105), the Council must consult you on a range of housing management matters and give you or your representatives the opportunity to make your views known. This means that the Council must consult you before:
- changing the way we manage your home
- carrying out any improvement or maintenance work
- demolishing your home, or
- providing services or facilities
The way we consult you will depend on the changes and the number of tenants likely to be affected. You can get involved in the consultation process by:
- joining a recognised Tenants and Residents Association (TRA)
- becoming an Estate Stakeholder
- going to leasehold forum meetings
- becoming a member of our board
- joining the Tenant Investment Working Party
- going to area contract panel meetings
- answering one of our surveys asking for your views
- joining a focus group
- writing articles for the Tenants and Residents Association newsletter, and
- going to Community Council Forums or Tenants Council meetings
These and other activities help you to:
- fully understand the issues that affect everyone
- understand the best way for individuals and groups to be involved
- help the Council and us to make decisions on housing investment
- effectively monitor and improve the services and housing in the area
- make decisions that reflect the needs of both residents and the wider community
