Blocks of flats

Waltham Forest Council is introducing shared bins for mixed recycling for blocks of flats across the borough.

The mixed recycling bins are clearly labelled and can be used for the following materials:

  • Paper
  • Cardboard (flattened)
  • Plastic bottles (rinsed)
  • Tins, cans and foil (rinsed)
  • Glass bottles and jars (rinsed)
  • Tetra pak
  • Food and drink cartons
  • Plastic bags and magazine wrapping
  • Plastic cups and straws
  • Other plastic food and drink packaging (such as yogurt pots, ice cream tubs, margarine containers, fruit punnets and bottle tops)

Please do not use the mixed recycling bins for any other materials. Please do not put your recycling in plastic bags.

Mixed recycling bins are emptied weekly. If you find a bin that is full before its collection day, please tell us so we know to empty it sooner. Email wfdirect@walthamforest.gov.uk or call 020 8496 3000.

Some blocks of flats in the borough currently have recycling bins for separated materials, such as paper, glass and tins. These bins will gradually be replaced by bins for mixed recycling.

Converted houses

If you live in a building with a doorstep to the street with frontage to store the containers, like a converted house, you are included in the compulsory recycling scheme.

Flats above shops

For flats without dedicated recycling facilities, such as those above shops, there are mini recycling sites around the borough. You can also take recycling to the three household waste recycling centres.
