A report went to Cabinet 2 March 2010 to update Cabinet on the progress of discussions for the disposal of this site and to seek approval to proceed with the marketing of the site for a mixed use development incorporating a superstore in line with the Council’s current planning policies.
Cabinet in January 2010 authorised officers to proceed with negotiations. However, whilst Sainsburys have made a significant financial offer for the site, the Councils advice is that the offer made falls short of the price that could be achieved through marketing the site more widely. The discussions with Sainsburys have therefore been terminated.
