Background
A fantastic opportunity arose to create a play area in Kitchener Park through £135k funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Government’s Playbuilder Scheme. The park previously consisted of two large open grass areas with a tarmac path around the perimeter and lacked equipment, family-friendly facilities or points of interest.
Kitchener Park was re-launched in March 2010 to enormous support from local residents and children who were involved with shaping the scheme from the outset.
Kitchener Park is located in the centre of Walthamstow in the highly diverse and dense part of Waltham Forest where there are significant elements of deprivation.
