Parks

As a borough we are fortunate to have many open spaces. As a result, we can put on many outdoor sporting eventsso you can enjoy green spaces and gardens to watch, or take part in, major activities such as cricket, football, tennis, cycling, skateboarding and rugby or one of the many smaller events put on regularly by Green Space.

We look after six premier parks as well as a number of smaller parks, open spaces, cemeteries, playing fields and children's playgrounds.

In Waltham Forest you can enjoy a number of different facilities. Our 'premier parks'  have children's play areas, attractive landscaping or interesting features such as fountains or displays of bedding plants.

Opening times

Except where otherwise stated, our parks are open each day all year round. We aim to open locked parks by 9am each morning and they close at dusk. For exact times please see the park notice boards or find them here.

Some sports areas (such as tennis courts) are only open for prebooked activities, so please call us to check availability and make reservations.

Friends Groups

A number of parks and open spaces have active friends groups. These are voluntary community groups that help to make sure parks are meeting the community needs. If you would like to know more please see our Friends of Parks pages.

When using our sports, parks and leisure facilities, we will:

  • open our facilities at the advertised times 365 days a year
  • provide facilities that are clean, safe and well maintained
  • continue to improve our leisure centres via Greenwhich Leisure
  • provide more opportunities for you to take part in sport and physical activity, particularly for children
  • provide clear and proper signs in all park, which give details of facilities available within the park and information boards which show the standard of maintenance that you can reasonably expect for that area
  • check play areas each day and inspect them fully each month
  • provide our six premier parks in the knowledge that they have on-site staff, while other parks are visited regularly by our mobile parks patrol
