The annual Waltham Forest Design Awards, run in association with The Guardian Newspaper, have once again helped to raise awareness and appreciation of good building design.
The 2006 event attracted eleven quality entries from every corner of the borough, which were visited by a judging panel consisting of Councillor Terry Wheeler (Cabinet member for Investment and Enterprise), Dan Mason (Chief editor Guardian newspapers), Tim Bennett-Goodman (Waltham Forest Arts Council), Richard Harral (Royal Institute of British Architects), and Chris Hartiss (Waltham Forest Civic Society).
At an awards ceremony held at William Morris Gallery in early February the winning entries were announced and the design teams responsible were presented with plaques, certificates, and bottles of champagne in recognition of their achievements.

“The Waltham Forest Design Awards are a key part of the Council’s drive to promote and reward good design in the built environment of the borough. I want to thank Guardian Newspapers for their continued support and all those who submitted entries in 2006, and I look forward to an even greater number of entries in 2007. My congratulations go to all of those involved in the design and construction of the entries in this year’s event, and particularly to the 2006 award winning schemes which have achieved the highest standards.”
