Chingford Mount Cemetery, 121 Old Church Road, London, E4 6ST

The cemetery, which covers 41.5 acres, was opened in May 1884.

It was originally owned by a private company but, after changes in ownership and many years of neglect, it was taken over by the London Borough of Waltham Forest in 1977.

Much of the cemetery is laid out with traditional type full size memorials and public graves. Since 1981, only lawn type memorials have been permitted and the newer areas are laid out in lawn type cemetery design.

The main drive is lined by large 'London Plane' trees with the rest of the cemetery supporting many different varieties of trees. This has made the cemetery attractive to wild life with an abundance of squirrels.

Many people visit the cemetery, not only to visit family graves, but also to find peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Walthamstow Cemetery (Queens Road), Queens Road, Walthamstow, E17 8QP

The cemetery, which covers 11 acres, opened in October 1872. It was started by the Walthamstow Burial Board who had the two chapels and belfry, together with the lodge, coroner's court and sundry buildings erected.

The cemetery is now full, except for the re-opening of family plots.

Many of the family graves have now been neglected for years and it is envisaged that, subject to legal requirements, these memorials are removed to allow the improvement of the cemetery.

Cemeteries Regulations

Certain other documents are available, such are those for Levelling of Graves, Purchase of Replacement Grave Deeds, Transfer of Ownership and to request searches.
