The Food Safety Team aim to protect the health of all people by ensuring food and drink available in our Borough is safe to consume.

Chicken and chips – What’s in it?

Chicken and chips is a popular meal for young people.

We sampled chicken and chips, from takeaways in the local community. We found this meal to be extremely high in calories, fats and salt. We want to provide our residents with information that will help them to make better and healthier food choices.

Food Safety

What we do

  • Carry out routine inspections of all types food businesses and ensure they are run in a hygienic way and comply with health and safety legislation
  • Undertake food sampling and check that products are labelled correctly
  • Advise businesses and consumers on food safety
  • Investigate serious complaints, including instances of food poisoning and injury occuring as a result of food consumption
  • Where appropriate take legal action against those food businesses that breach food safety law and pose a risk to public health
  • Liaise with the our partners in response to cases of communicable disease

Food Safety and Trading Standards officers may offer talks to schools, groups and businesses promoting consumer rights and food safety awareness.
