The London Borough of Waltham Forest is committed to Fair Trade and became an official Fair Trade Borough in February 2007.

Waltham Forest was the 12th London borough to gain Fairtrade recognition and the first in the north east of the capital helping to boost the Fairtrade London campaign which aims to dramatically increase awareness and availability of Fairtrade products across the capital.

Buying Fairtrade guarantees that producers in the developing world get a better deal. Fairtrade products bought directly from farmers at a price that covers the cost of production and an extra locally invested premium enable farmers and other producers to earn a decent livelihood and lift their families and communities out of poverty.

By achieving Fairtrade status Waltham Forest can lend its formal support to disadvantaged farming communities in the developing world by promoting the principles of Fairtrade here and beyond the Borough’s borders.
