Hot Food Takeaway Shops - Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) - consultation closed
Earlier this year, during the “Our Place in London” consultation, residents told us that they were concerned about the number of hot food takeaway shops in the borough. This issue was also raised during the recent public consultation exercise on the LDF Core Strategy. In response, the Council is proposing to tighten the rules on all planning applications for hot food takeaway shops in the borough. The draft SPD on hot food takeaway shops seeks to:
- Prevent high concentrations and clusters of takeaways
- Prevent them locating near schools, youth facilities, parks and residential areas
- Resist proposals that would cause unacceptable risk of crime and antisocial behaviour
- Ensure they don't have an unacceptable impact on road safety
- Ensure they have good systems in place to deal with smells and waste
Public consultation was undertaken from 20th October to 8th December 2008 and has now closed. The Council is considering the representations made. Following this, a Consultation Report will be published containing a summary of all the representations received and the Council's response to the issues raised.

Interim Planning Policy on Dwelling Conversions - consultation closed
The draft policy on flat conversions makes it easier to reject planning applications for flat conversions in order to protect family housing. The policy will introduce a restricted conversion area in eight wards, chosen because they have unhealthy and unsustainable levels of flat conversions. These wards are Cann Hall, Cathall, Forest, Grove Green, High Street, Hoe Street, Leyton and Leytonstone. The proposed policy will also introduce new conditions that apply across the whole of Waltham Forest. These conditions will increase the minimum size of house eligible for conversion from 105 square metres to 120 square metres, and will prevent conversions where there is another within 200 metres.
The consultation period closed on Friday 8 August 2008. The Council is considering the representations submitted.

Supplementary Planning Document on Planning Obligations - consultation closed
The draft policy on Planning Obligations seeks to offset any negative impacts on the community caused by development. This is done through a requirement for financial and non-financial contributions from developers towards affordable housing, new schools, open spaces and transport improvements. The draft policy outlines our approach to seeking contributions from developers to invest in key infrastructure needed to support new development.
