he Council has started work on the preparation of a series of planning documents called the Local Development Framework (LDF). These documents will guide development and change in the borough over the next 15 years. The first and most important of these documents is the LDF Core Strategy, because this will set the course for everything to follow.

The Core Strategy will deal with the big strategic planning issues - how the area within Waltham Forest should develop and where developments should go in broad terms. It will focus on the key strategic key issues such as jobs, housing, town centres, health, education, transport, built and natural heritage and climate change.

LDF Core Strategy – Issues and Options

The starting point for the production of the Core Strategy is the identification of Issues and Options. In June 2008, the Council published a consultation document setting out the possible issues and options the Core Strategy should address. Public consultation was undertaken from 25th June to 1st September 2008.

Published below are the summary comments received during the consultation period. As next stage, the Council will publish a full consultation report also setting out how it intends to take these issues forward to the next stage of the Core Strategy preparation process.

Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report

We are required to fully integrate Sustainability Appraisal in the preparation of the LDF Core Strategy. The purpose of Sustainability Appraisal is to assess the social, economic and environmental effects of any proposed policies to be included in the Core Strategy. The first stage of the sustainability appraisal process is the production of a Scoping Report, providing the framework to be used to help develop policy options and consider their possible effects. Public consultation on this document was also undertaken from 25th June to 1st September 2008. Published below is a schedule of comments received during the consultation period. As next stage the Council will publish a full consultation report including its response to the matters raised.
