When planning applications are submitted there is a comprehensive system in place, which ensures that proposals are publicised in order to invite comments from the local community. After the planning application has been made, the local planning authority will post notices nearby and write letters inviting comments to those living closest to the proposed development and relevant stakeholders and interest groups. Larger developments will also be advertised in a local newspaper with possible exhibitions in municipal buildings. The details of the proposals, including architects' drawings and models, will be available for inspection at your council offices.
Comments on planning applications must be in written form to be considered and can be provided by e-mail to the Authority to:

» Comment on a live planning application
The consultation system is undergoing continuous improvement, particularly in the area of e-Planning and full information on the Council's planning services, the weekly list of planning applications, full committee reports and planning decisions are all now readily available for viewing on the Council's website. Residents will soon be able to search for application details and enter comments directly on line.
In addition, the Council has now signed up to the National Planning Portal, and this provides the necessary electronic links not only to the information services on the Council's own site, but a direct method for planning applicants to make electronic applications through the Portal.
Over the course of the next year, the Planning Service will be undertaking a comprehensive review of its consultation methods on wider planning policy matters; and in line with the provisions of new planning legislation will be preparing and acting on a formal Statement of Community Involvement.
