The government has given a range of minor developments to houses exemption from planning control. This is called permitted development and you don't need to apply to us for planning permission for these works.
The permitted development allowances changed from 1 October 2008 and guidance on the current provisions will appear here shortly. In the interim, if you are considering extending your home, you are urged to contact the Duty Planning Officer on 020 8496 3000 who will explain the new permitted development rights to you. The Order setting out the new allowances can be viewed at www.opsi.gov.uk
The changes only affect development to single houses and does not apply to flats; any development to a flat will still require planning permission.
We welcome feedback on our web pages and planning service.
