Welcome to the Youth Support Service
This service brings together the following areas: the youth service, the teenage pregnancy service, information, advice and guidance services (formerly delivered on behalf of the borough by Connexions North East and the Futures Careers Management).
The youth support service is a single organisational structure in the Children and Young People Services Directorate, responsible and accountable for youth policy and the Every Child Matters outcomes.
In line with the council’s statutory duty to offer positive activity for all young people, the service works with partners, schools and other agencies identifying and recruiting to programmes those who will benefit from additional support. The youth support service’s primary aim is to improve outcomes for young people 13-19 years and up to 25 for people with disabilities, broadening the range and quality of experiences available to them. Young people are encouraged to lead on this process and take decisions as to the activities that are commissioned.
This will be organised through five main areas of action:
- Visit Forestflava, the Council's website for young people aged 11-19.
- Volunteering
- Information, advice and guidance
- Specialist support for mentoring, youth involvement and teenage pregnancy
- Youth centres
