About Extended Services
On the 1 April 2008 Early Years and Play and Extended Schools became known as Extended Services. Extended Services provide services to children, young people and families. The core services are for 0-19 year olds and up to 25 years of age for young people with disabilities.
Waltham Forest Extended Services offers integrated services for young children and their families. This includes providing early education for all children through:
- Improving childcare services by ensuring quality, access, equality and inclusion
- Developing the childcare workforce
- Providing information and advice to parents and the local community
- Implementing government childcare initiatives
- Providing out of school/holiday schemes
- Developing children centres in the borough
- Extended schools
Extended schools
Schools in Waltham Forest are now offering more and more events, activities and services for children, young people, parents and families to get involved in. They focus on:
- Childcare
- Activities before and after school and during the holidays for children and young people
- Activities for parents and families
- Activities for local community groups
- Specialist services, for example, careers, citizens' and health advice

The Family Information Service is a free, impartial service giving detailed information and advice on childcare as well as general information on a wide range of services for children and young people and their families in Waltham Forest.
