The TellUs2 survey was a survey undertaken across England by Ofsted asking children and young people from Years 6, 8 and 10 of their views about their local area. The survey was carried out in Spring 2007.  In each local authority a sample of different types of schools within that area we selected and schools were then provided with guidance detailing how to select pupils to take part within that school.

The survey contained six sections. Section 1 asks general information about the person completing the survey. Sections 2-6 contain questions which follow the format of Every Child Matters under the headings of:

  • Being healthy
  • Staying safe
  • Enjoying and achieving
  • Making a positive contribution
  • Achieving economic well being

Ofsted have weighted the responses to questions at Waltham Forest level and at national level to ensure that the summary data is representative of the population of Year 6, 8 and 10 children in that area in terms of:

  • Gender
  • Age
  • Proportion of children eligible for free school meals (as a proxy for deprivation), and
  • Type of school
