WFMS Youth Orchestra

Our services

Waltham Forest Music Service (WFMS) provides music tuition in most of the borough’s schools. With our staff of more than 50 teachers, we provide tuition in a wide variety of instruments, including all the standard orchestral instruments as well as recorders, piano, keyboard, guitar, percussion and singing. We also offer tuition in African drumming. In all of these instruments we cater to the full range of abilities from the absolute beginner to the advanced musician.

Whole Class Instrumental and Vocal Tuition is run in partnership with local schools and after school clubs. This enables more children access to instrumental tuition. Our "Take 10" follow up classes enable young people to continue learning at an affordable price.

WFMS was started nearly 40 years ago. We strive for a high standard of achievement and our well-qualified and dedicated teachers are committed to the development and support of music throughout our schools. Many of them bring professional playing into teaching and experience gained from the highest level with the country’s leading orchestras and ensembles.

  • to increase participation of children and young people, living in deprived neighbourhoods, by enriching their lives and extending their musical awareness through the development of musical projects at evenings and weekends
  • to be considered a centre of excellence both within the London Borough of Waltham Forest, nationally and internationally
