Frederick Bremer School

Frederick Bremer

The £20 million construction project to build the new Frederick Bremer School, in Walthamstow, was completed in August 2008. It brought together two previous schools - Aveling Park and Warwick School for Boys.

This state of the art new school has inspired both its pupils and teachers. Speaking about the new surroundings, pupil Alex Austin said:

"Its great to be at a brand new school. It's even better than we imagined."

The new school facilities include:

  • Environmentally friendly design
  • Well stocked learning resource centre, including library, 90 computers and a wireless network
  • Art room, digital dark room, kiln 'oven' for art materials, construction room and art terrace
  • Landscaped grounds, including an astro turf 'five a side' pitch and traversing 'climbing' wall
  • Multi-use sports hall, including use for basketball, badminton and indoor football
  • Lecture theatre, recording studio, soundproofed practice room and a first class drama area

The school also benefits people in the community through extended services offered including 'after school' learning clubs and hire of the facilities during 'out of school' hours.

SEN and 'Post 16' provision

From September 2009, the school provided 15 SEN places for children with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and speech and language and communication needs (SLCN).

From September 2010, the school will also be providing 40 places for ‘post-16’ education, meaning pupils can stay on after their GCSE examinations and gain further qualifications at the same school.
