The school has worked hard over the last few months to finalise its design brief, which is the first step in the planning and design process for the project. The design brief is the school's own vision on how the project may help resolve existing issues such as design of the school, its buildings and layout, its open spaces for pupils and its facilities such as parking.

The Council’s Cabinet have now approved the planning brief for the Chingford Foundation School project.
This means the school is now able to start work on its design brief to help plan and design its school improvements, through the proposed part new build and part refurbishment.
Project information
The number of pupils able to attend the sixth form at Chingford Foundation School will be increased from its current number of 252 by an additional 123 places, from September 2010. This means that 375 pupils will be able to stay on after their GCSE examinations and gain further qualifications at the same school.
In addition, the school will be providing places for children with special educational needs (SEN) from September 2010. There will be 20 SEN places for children with speech and language and communication needs (SLCN).
The school’s construction project aims to improve its existing school facilities through a part new build and part refurbishment. This work looks to transform the school's learning and teaching spaces, and bring improvements to dining facilities and access for pupils and all users of the new sports hall.
The school aspire to improve access to the school for all its pupils and staff. Accessibility improvements will also include lifts for SEN pupils and look to address pedestrian routes in and around the school, and vehicle access areas.
Benefits to the school and our young people
Last year the Sorrell Foundation worked with groups of pupils from the school, to listen to their hopes and ambitions for the project.
The pupils, excited by the opportunities that this project brings, shared their ideas on how good design will improve the quality of life in their school.
