I would like to vote in an election - what should I do?

When will I receive my polling card?

Your polling card will be hand delivered to your address approximately one month before an election.

Can I vote without a polling card?

Yes, as long as your name is on the electoral register.

Can I go to any polling station to vote?

No. You can only vote at your allocated polling station. You will find details of this on your polling card. You can find the location of your allocated polling station on the My Place interactive map.

What if I cannot attend the polling station?

You can vote by post but you must complete a postal vote application form  which must be returned to the Electoral Services Office by 5.00pm 11 days before the election.

Or you can appoint a proxy (someone to vote on your behalf). You must complete an application to vote by proxy form which must be returned to the contact the Electoral Services Office by 5pm 5 days before the election.

If you have previously applied to have a postal vote as a permanent arrangement, and wish to change those arrangements, you must notify the Electoral Services Office by 5pm on 11 days before the election.

When do I get my voting paper?

If you have applied for a postal vote, Royal Mail will deliver the ballot paper to you approximately 2 weeks before polling day.

What time is the polling station open?

All polling stations are open 7am-10pm on the polling day. Please note you cannot be issued with a ballot paper after 10pm, even if you are at the polling station before then

How can I find out about the results of the elections?

The results will be published on the Council’s website and on the noticeboards at the Waltham Forest Town Hall.
