How much benefit can I get?

You can use the Online Benefits Calculator for an estimate of how much Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit you may get. Just fill in the information on the form then click on the calculate button to get your estimate.

The calculator estimates how much benefit you may get based on the information you supply. However:

  • The estimate does not guarantee that you will qualify
  • It is only an estimate, so the exact amount you get may be different
  • It does not count as a claim for benefit. If you want to apply, you must make a formal claim for benefit

When will my benefit start from?

Your entitlement will usually start from:

  • The Monday after you first contact us asking to claim (as long as we get your completed form within a month of you contacting us) or
  • The Monday after we receive your form
  • Your entitlement can start from an earlier date if you can show us there was a continuous good reason why you did not claim earlier. Please let us know if you think this applies to you

Important

  • If you think you may be entitled to benefit, please make a claim as soon as possible
  • If you delay, you may get less money
  • If you can't fill in the online claim form or get to a Customer Service Centre or Leyton Library straight away, then phone or email us to register your interest in claiming. Your benefit will then start from the following Monday as long as you submit a claim form within one calendar month of that contact
